Blog journal 5

My initial experiences in our classroom using Diigo was very interesting. I personally have never heard of this site before and what it is used for. When we used it the other day in class, it opened my eyes to another site that could be very helpful for me. I like the fact that Diigo is a place where you can have a lot of bookmarks that you want to save and look back on at any time. It was also interesting that we can be in one group within our classroom and see what bookmarks others save in case we ever wanted to check it out. I also like how it put all of our entries under one bookmark when we saved the same site, which would make it easier to find without having a bunch of different entries on the group page. This shows a sense of organization within the site, which I like because it makes it easier for us to use. My first experiences with this site were pretty good and I have not found anything that I dislike about it just yet.

Blogging is very new to me to be honest. I was never interested in doing blogs nor reading them, until having to do them in this class. There are things that I like as well as things that I dislike about it. I like that I can look at my classmates' blogs and explore their point of view in comparison to mine. What I dislike is that we have to create blogs. In reality, it is not all that bad, I am just not a fan of blogging. Although, I have realized that it is a very nice platform to learn from others, and see a different perspective on certain topics. So far, I have learned that blogging takes dedication. You have to actually want to do it and care about what you are putting out their for others to see.

An interesting Web 2.0 tool that I might use while teaching would have to be Skype. Skype is a way of communicating with others through a webcam. Users of Skype have the opportunity to communicate with others anywhere in the world, whether near or far. Within my classroom, I could use this platform to communicate with my students and their parents. Parent-teacher conferences could be held on Skype if it is unable to happen in person. It is a great alternative to communicate with others who are not in person. I personally have used Skype before to communicate with my family who are in Jamaica, and with friends and other family in other parts of the United States. I believe that it is a great tool for communicating with others, that can be beneficial to me in the future with my career. Want to check it out? Click this link: skype.com

  1. I enjoyed reading your blog and can relate all of your experiences as I too was also a first time user of Diigo and blogging. I like your web 2.0 tool. I have heard of Skype before but have never used it or thought about it being used in an educational setting. I like how you suggested that Skype can be used for parent-teacher conferences because sometimes many parents are unable to make it to school meetings due to work or transportation. Therefore, I like how your web 2.0 tool gives parents that alternative.
